Along the shores of Lake Garda, you might not notice it at first — but look closely, and the lake reveals tiny, colorful treasures hidden among the sand and stones. Lake glass glimmers alongside fragments of old tiles, faded by time yet still full of character.
These pieces were once ordinary bottles, jars, or tiles, discarded long ago. Over the years, the motion of the lake and the rubbing of sand and stones have rounded sharp edges and given the surfaces a delicate, frosted glow.
A souvenir full of history
Greens, ambers, deep blues, soft whites, and the occasional patterned tile fragment sparkle in the sunlight. For most lake glass, this process takes 20 to 50 years, sometimes even longer, depending on water movement and environmental conditions.
Lake glass is time, water, and motion transforming something discarded into something beautiful. Next time you wander along Lake Garda’s shores, take your time. If you discover a beautifully rounded piece of glass, you’ll take home a souvenir steeped in history.
(And for impressiv glass art we recommend to visit the Glass Museum in Venice)
